Billings Chamber Candidate School

Description

We encourage attendance to this FREE program of anyone interested in learning more about running for elected office—whether you plan to seek office this year, are still deciding, or simply curious about the process. This program is designed to give candidates an understanding of what is expected of their desired office, familiarity with campaign best-practices, campaign finance literacy, and an opportunity to hear from current elected officials. Each participant will receive a Certificate of Completion to signify their attendance. A certificate of completion is not a candidate endorsement by the Billings Chamber of Commerce.


Legislator 101—Jerry Howe

154 pages of the Legislator’s Handbook boiled down to an hour…or maybe just the basics. Either way, this is incredibly important information!


An Effective Ground Game—TBD

Knocking doors can be intimidating. Less so if you have a plan. How can attendees put together a plan that helps them effectively engage with voters?

 

Digital Campaign Strategy—Tim Stark

All politics is local online. How can candidates leverage online presence and digital to get their message out? What do they need to avoid? 

 

Campaign Finance Reporting—Commissioner of Political Practices

Montana’s campaign finance laws provide excellent transparency…because candidates are reporting everything. We want them all to be doing it correctly!
